Understanding E-Competences in Adoption and Assimilation of E-Services (Track 2, Session 3)

Abstract : This article investigates competences in adoption and assimilation of business-to-business e-services. The basic research question that it investigates is: What are the e-competences required both at top management and individual level for a successful assimilation of business-to- business e-services? To answer the research question, an in depth case study of an e-service, the e�service provider and e-service customers is conducted. The critical incident technique is used to collect data regarding competences. The results show that competences both at top management level and individual level are important for the successful assimilation of e-services. The findings show that two main competences are important in adoption of e-services at top management level: vision and control. At individual level the findings show that eleven main competences have to be in place for the assimilation of e-services within a company. These have been categorized into three main groups: technical, interpersonal and conceptual. The article also discusses some implications for managers wanting to adopt e-services in their corporation as well some limitation.
